Lillies and such

I finally had a chance to get out and about and take photos.

This consited of a walk down to the local river, and some of the surounding landscape, I will let other people discuss details of the plant stuff that’s going on here, I got about as far as “oooh, pretty colours”.

Some of the more notable encounters were a squirel that I ended up about 6 feet from, a world class collection of water lillies and some really cool butterflies and other bugs.

Below are some of the shots I took, the photographers among you will notice that most of them seem to be taken at a rather long folcal length, and there are many macro shots in there, that would be owing to the purcase of my new favourate lens, the Minolta 100mm f2.8 Macro RS D — more on this later.

Can I make a special request that people feed back on how this post looks from where you are viewing it from, as I’m testing out some new ways of doing things in this post.

There are more (about 50 more) and larger copies of these here (7 images follow)

    At last! some nice pics from the half ton of glassware that you’re lugging about! Da floors are especially nice. Layout and such looks fine. I hope you’re not going to shoot that poor squirrel after your last bloodthirsty blog on guns!

  3. Beachwood Says:

    Beautiful photos, JR. Let’s see lots more!

    Your post looks fine… very nice pictures. If you are still confused about the temperature, this might help:

    Tc=(5/9)*(Tf-32)
    Tc=temperature in degrees Celsius Tf=temperature in degrees Fahrenheit
    * means multiply

    @Cabbage — I can’t post a squirel to you, they have teeth, and don’t like to be packed, so either be or the box would get bitten beyod the point of sense…

    @Trowiewan — he is a grey after all, but I think they are native to these parts.

    @beachwood — did you have a look at the others in the album?

    @failedQA — so what am I supposed to do — I’m about to get out of a plane, and don’t know whether to put on, or take off clothes — “everyone stand still while i get out my calculator…” in all seriusness, thanks for the equation, it may be of some use.

    to all — thanks for the feedback.

    Conspiracy Theory #1: You never went to Texas. It’s all just a mock-up created in a film studio just outside Edinburgh.
    Conspiracy Theory #2: You’ve done everything with CGI.

    However, on the off-chance that you *are* in Texas - the photos look good (especially the lilies), although why you had to travel half-way across the world to photograph a fly is beyond me.
